In Greece, New York, police responded to a report at Adeline Park of a golden retriever being shot with an arrow in the torso at 10:20 am. The dog was taken to an urgent care and then to an animal hospital in Niagara Falls for surgery.

Officers discovered that two residents on Denise Rd were doing target practice with a crossbow when one of the arrows struck the dog as the owner was walking it. The crossbow used in injuring the dog was recovered by the police.

James Smith, 56, and Linnette Torres, 45, were charged with Reckless Endangerment 1st, with Torres also facing a charge of Criminal Mischief 4th for injuring the dog.

CID Detectives are working with the ASPCA and NYSDEC for possible additional charges as the investigation continues. Smith and Torres will be arraigned in Greece Town Court. It appears that Smith and Torres did not intend to harm the dog but acted recklessly.
