On July 1, 2024, the Greece Police Department in New York investigated a car larceny where a handgun was stolen from a parked vehicle at 500 Center Place Dr. Following their investigation, detectives identified Chad Modzel, a 45-year-old Greece resident, as a person of interest in the car larceny and other related crimes such as vehicle break-ins, larcenies, and burglaries.

On August 20, 2024, detectives executed two search warrants at hotel rooms near the crime location. As a result of the investigation, Chad Modzel was arrested and charged with several offenses, including criminal possession of a weapon, grand larceny, and identity theft related to crimes at 500 Center Place Dr. and a business on West Ridge Rd. During the search warrant executions, additional charges of criminal possession of a weapon and possession of a controlled substance were also brought against Modzel.

Chad Modzel was arraigned in Greece Town Court and remanded to the county jail without bail. Detectives recovered more stolen property and indicated that further charges may be filed against Modzel and other suspects involved in the crimes.

The Greece Police Department commended their detectives for their diligent work on the case.
