**Safety System Trials Suspended in 27J Schools Due to Performance Issues**
Brighton, Colorado — 27J Schools has announced the suspension of metal detector trials in its high schools after determining that the devices failed to meet essential safety requirements. According to the district, the vendor’s claims regarding the metal detectors' performance and liability were inaccurate, leading to their decision to halt the program.
The trial involved implementing metal detectors at Brighton High School, Prairie View High School, Riverdale Ridge High School, and Innovations & Options. However, the devices underperformed in terms of accurate detection and reliability—key factors for ensuring student and staff safety.
As a result, the district is now considering alternative safety solutions. These include exploring advanced technologies, such as artificial intelligence systems, which may offer enhanced security while being less intrusive for students.
“While we’re incredibly disappointed, I’m confident we’ll move forward with a better solution,” said Sam Ortega, Director of Safety Services for 27J Schools.
The district reaffirmed its commitment to prioritizing safety and creating a secure environment for its schools. Discussions about new methods and technologies are ongoing as the search for an effective and dependable safety system continues.
